The pallet sits on a weighing scale. The wild rice is electronically weighed (subtracting the weight of the pallet, of course).
The weighing meter is in the yellow shed, protected from the weather. Immediately, a worker records information about the shipment: who brought the rice; where it was grown; when it was harvested; how much it weighs; and what its water content is (usually anywhere between 35% and 50%). At the end of your tour, you'll see how we actually measure this water content.

Next a forklift moves the pallet to temporary storage.
