Students Celebrated With Pinning Ceremony

Third-year College of Education students will be celebrated Thursday at the annual pinning ceremony.

Third-year University of Saskatchewan (U of S) College of Education students will be welcomed to the profession Thursday night during the annual Pinning Ceremony.

The purpose of the ceremony is for all third-year students from the elementary and secondary program, the Indian Teacher Education Program (ITEP), and the Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP) to attend and engage in a ceremony to mark their commitment to the teaching profession.  The students also sign the Educator’s Profession banner, the oath of the professional teacher.

Before the ceremony, students assemble with the College faculty and staff, University leadership, leadership from the Ministry of Education, officials from the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers' Regulatory Board, leadership from the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation, senior leadership from Saskatchewan school divisions, First Nations leaders, alumni, partners, and other members of the public.

During the ceremony, students are asked to profess their intention to uphold the values and commitments embedded within the Profession, join their colleagues in receiving a pin representing this commitment, and sign a banner upon which the Profession is written.

At Thursday’s ceremony, among the dignitaries will be Dr. Patti McDougall, University of Saskatchewan Vice-Provost Teaching and Learning, Honourable Deputy Premier and Minister of Education Gordon Wyant, Deputy Minister Rob Currie, and Elder Norman Fleury.  Members of the Faculty will also be in attendance to support and celebrate this commitment.

The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in the Education Building Gymnasium.
