About
Dr. Lori McKee is an Associate Professor of Curriculum Studies in the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan. Her background as an elementary school teacher for 20 years deeply informs her current work. In her classroom, she became intrigued by the varied ways young children acquire literacies and the pedagogies that best support these diverse learning paths. This curiosity ultimately led her to pursue doctoral studies and now informs her practice in both teacher and graduate education.
At the undergraduate level, Dr. McKee’s teaching focuses on Elementary Language Arts, where she aims to equip preservice teachers with the tools to navigate the complexities of teaching literacies in contemporary settings. In her graduate courses, she facilitates MEd capstone and project courses, fostering professional growth and reflective practice among her students.
Dr. McKee’s research centers on literacies, pedagogies, and teacher professional learning, often incorporating program development and documentation phases. Her work has included studies on intergenerational literacies with elders and young children in elder care facilities, literacy pedagogies in collaboration with teachers and children in school settings, and professional learning opportunities that encourage teacher educators to engage with equitable reading pedagogies in teacher education.
Her research and teaching experiences are closely interwoven, and she actively contributes to both professional and academic dialogues on literacies, pedagogies, and teacher professional learning. In professional settings, she has published in journals such as The Reading Teacher and Perspectives and Provocations. Academically, her work appears in international journals like the Journal of Early Childhood Literacy, Literacy, Language and Education, and Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education. She has also contributed chapters to books published by Routledge, Springer, and Policy Press.
