Section 1 - Profile

Keith Walker is a professor in the Department of Educational Administration at the University of Saskatchewan.  His academic interests, expertise, and activity revolve around executive leadership, organizational development, positive organizational studies, governance and applied ethics in education, public administration and not-for-profit sectors.  He most identifies with his roles as husband, father, grand-father, teacher-scholar, apprentice, colleague, mentor and friend.  Keith is married to Viv (M.D., C.C.F.P., P.C.), who works as a physician (family and palliative medicine).  His formal education has been in several disciplines and fields of study, including physical education, theology, philosophy, education and educational administration (B.P.E., B.Ed., M.Ed., Ph.D., Dip C.S., D.D. (honoris causa)).

Reverend Doctor Walker is an ordained minister with the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Canada and works across Christian sectors with Catholic, Mainline Protestant and Conservative Protestant groups and congregations on a non-renumerative basis.  Keith’s occupations have ranged from international coach to teacher to minister to educational administrator to professor in various contexts.  His international academic work has extended to over 15 countries (keynotes, workshops, consultancies and collaborative research projects). 

In his 30 years at the University of Saskatchewan, Keith has supervised over 100 graduate students to completion of their research; he is the author or co-author of over 100 refereed articles and chapters, along with more than 15 books.  He has held (mostly with others) over a dozen SSHRC grants in the areas of his academic interests.  Dr. Walker loves to engage in teaching and learning, facilitating a broad range of courses.  He currently supervises more than a dozen graduate student researchers (mostly doctoral and some masters students).  Keith enjoys his work with another 20 graduate research students through Committee membership and through external examiner roles.

Keith is well-known for his facilitative, consultative, coaching and peace-making skills. He has trained other leaders in appreciative inquiry methodologies and Keith has been engaged in process consultation in and beyond Saskatchewan for governments, international agencies, banks and foundations, national non-profit organizations, schools, professional associations and school divisions/districts.

Keith has served on numerous Boards (i.e., universities, government appointments, and not-for-profits) and has consulted broadly; currently he serves on two boards.  He has been active in university governance roles at his own university.
