2024 Pinning Ceremony
Over 200 College of Education students were celebrated at the 2024 Pinning Ceremony on February 2nd.
By Connor JayThe pinning ceremony event marks an opportunity to recognize the successes of the college’s students and to formalize their commitment to the field of education broadly, and to the teaching profession more specifically.
The pinning ceremony is an event where third-year undergraduate students celebrate the milestone in their academic careers as they transition from being university students to being teacher candidates ready to enter their extended 16-week practicum next year. Fourth and fifth-year students who wished to receive their pin in person were also invited to the ceremony.
The pin can only be acquired by current students and alumni from the Bachelor of Education program here at the college. During the ceremony, students are asked to commit their intention to uphold the values and commitments embedding within the Educator's Oath, join their colleagues in receiving a pin representing this commitment, and sign a banner upon which the oath is written.
"The College of Education is in its 97th year. We share in our celebrations this year with more than 35,000 alumni who have gone on to do great things as professional teachers, in educational service, and in the wide variety of professions and callings where the skills of the teacher offer leadership," said Dean Dr. Julia Paulson.
At the ceremony, University of Saskatchewan Chancellor Grit McCreath, Nancy LaFleur of the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning and Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation President Samantha Becotte were among the dignitaries. Faculty and sessional lecturers were also in attendance to support the students in their commitment to the profession.
